Gouda

Headed into the centre of town only 5 mins walk to watch the recreation of the cheese market.

Horses,  hand slapping to negotiate and lots of cheese.
We then wandered around the market buying bread, cheese and vege.

They have a tradition here that when school is over for the year and the last exam is done they hang their back pack on the family flag pole.

After another wander about in Gouda we headed of to a lake area on the outskirts of town. the houses are built between the canals and the lakes on a thin strip of land. It must be a very expensive strip as the houses were very nice. We walked for about an hour or so around one of the lakes. We passed an open air swimming pool so walked back to get the Motor home ( now called Reggie) and drove to the pool.
( see the photo link at the start)
We spent the afternoon swimming and reading in the sun with a brief break for make a couple of rolls for lunch using the food we bought at the market.
plenty of room to swim
The pool was mostly empty so a very pleasant stop ( and a free shower)

We then drove to Utrecht where P met up with the editor of his Cassino then and now book and other articles. We had a really nice meal and then slept in the car park of the old fort grounds that they live in.
