S Savin , Poitier and Saint Junier

Today we visited Saint Savin Abbey, a huge and beautiful building.

and walked through the old medieval streets

Then off to Poitiers another medieval town where the french managed to defeat the moors who had ruled over a large part of Europe at that stage . Our park was at the top of a hill with 213 steps down to the town ( we got the bus back up ) . the town had 26,000 students at it various universities so it had a lot of young people in the streets and cafes.
We visited the cathedral and the organ was playing, it filled the space with music. see Perrys blog for music.
They cleaned whitewash off the ceiling and found colourful frescoes.
amazingly bright having been under white wash for 100s of years
