Pamplona
What a fun place Pamplona is, the old town streets are all pedestrian only . It was a Sunday and lots of family and groups were out eating and drinking at the street bars. The culture is to have snacks between 4-7 pm and then a meal at 8.30-9.30.
The snacks are called pinchos and the whole top of the bar is a cabinet of snacks , lots of meat and fish ones nearly all with bread and hardly any vege ones.
We did manage to find a couple of bars with vege ones and so had wine and snacks in two bars then coffee and cake in the last one.
We visited a museum , it had some interesting things including a column with people depicted with plague boils ... and some nice mosaic floors from Romans’ villas. Weirdly it had all the exhibits numbered but no narrations, so you could see it was number 6 but no where told you what 6 was.
When we came out a group had set up a band with trumpets , drums and the big horn that the person is inside, they played very rousing tunes and the crowd sang and clapped along. The band then headed through the streets with a crowd dancing along behind.
They city had a half triathlon on as well and the runners had to do three laps of the city walls to finish, they had a channel down the middle of the streets and we clapped and cheered as they ran past.
The bulls were not running and the bull fight arena was closed until summer, but I did buy a T-shirt.
