Lorient, Hennebot 18,19 September

We  went to Lorient which has 5 ports with fishing , cargo, sightseeing, very posh racing yacht teams ( like the Americas cup ones)  , and building French navy ships.  We went to see submarine pens built by the Germans in WW2. Unfortunately the tours were not on on the Friday and  could only walk around the outside.

these are some of the smaller ones

Then we walked to the ferry stop and got a ferry to Port Louis to see the museum of the French east india company. We passed so interesting street art.

quite Polynesian looking

The museum was in an old citadel with moats which empty when we arrived were full and deep when we left.

and boys were jumping off the sides

There were some interesting displays about the sea life saving as well as artefacts from the FEI coy and from shipwreck recoveries.
incredible work shame it is ivory

a rather lovely canon

a plate from a shipwreck they found 1000s of them in one ship

a nice display of chinese art

an art installation that we didnt understand
We then Drove via a spaghetti junction and a heavy traffic flow to Hennebot where we are parked by a river that has burst its banks......
we are the little dot, luckily we went straight ahead

Today we went and explored the town and then discovered that it is European heritage weekend so everything is free, public transport and museums ( that explains why the ferry and bus we free yesterday). We went to the information centre to see what is around here and chose an eco museum about a tin plate factory, exciting times.  Anyway we got our bikes and rode the 5km there and one of the guides spoke english so gave us a personal tour. Actually really interesting they turned molten metal into sheets and made corrugated iron, sent away the sheets for canning factories plus they made lots of tins. The tins they printed directly on the metal.
