Mont St Michel, 17 August
Yesterday we visited the most popular site in France that is outside Paris.
We went at 7pm so as to avoid the day crush but even then I think there are a lot less people about than pre covid. The motor home site we are in takes 150 vans ( all in large individual hedge lined plots ) and reviews saw it is always one in one out in August, we arrived drove straight in and it is half empty.
We walked from the camp to the island, it is 5 km there and back so not too bad and all along a dedicated walkway along the river.
The Mont looks like a harry potter invention rising out of the sea/sand.
We walked up down and around for a couple of hours and then walked back.
| A few people about but no bus tours, none anywhere in France all cancelled. |
We are going to bike down today to get a different tide as it was surrounded by sand when we were there and I would like to see it surrounded by water.
In the photo of Perry in the background are 4 armed police , this is how serious France takes wearing a mask.....actually they are at any very popular tourist spot in case of terrorists. First ones we've seen. We used to see the UK equivalent at Birmingham train station quite often. Now we are all wearing masks it must be hard to identify people. The French take it all quite seriously and do the social distancing and mask wearing.
The weather seemed to be threatening rain so we marched back at speed and it never rained at all, still means we earned a beer/ wine at the end of the day.
After 32 days in France we have finally finished all the D-Day beaches, bunkers and bridges so will have to find other sites to attract us. So far we have paid for 10 nights and have managed to find really good free Aires ( the french provide these for motorhomes ) where ever we have gone.
That's an amazing sky in that last photo. Pleased it didn't drown you!
