Guimpry-Messac 24/8 and Paimpont
We passed some fields of sunflowers today, always a bright spot in fields of corn.
We drove through valleys and visited a weir and fishing spot.
Must be a bit tiring just sitting there, may be snooze time
We then drove to the campsite and found tables set up and and a group of campers playing board games. They ten played cards and bingo. at 7.00 they put the games away and bought out wine and nibbles. No they didnt invite us to join them.
quite a lot of grey hair but no masks...they all left at the same time the next day so I think are a group that travels together
The camp was between a marina and a train line ( fortunately the trains stopped at 9pm). We watched a hire cruiser go out and he managed to hit the jetty and the bank, with the owner of the marina yelling at him from shore and the family looking a little embarrassed.
the hire boats not very busy this year
Next day we headed off on following a scenic route and ended up doing a couple of round about backtracks, tom tom trying to put us on cycle path, sent us up a farmers gravel road and wanted us to go over an old pedestrian bridge. Some days it is rather frustrating.
We got to Redon and watched a young lady lock master opening and closing a bridge and winding the lock gates. She was very busy for what looked like a summer job.
It was a nice river port town.
it for lease but might need a bit or DIY
the font is on a cage??
More public art
On the road again to the forest where we are staying ( Paimpont) we walked into town and found a lot more art and a lot of crystal and new age style shops. I think it is the Glastonbury of France. It is the home of the Legend of king Arthur and the round table. It is quite a popular place and more people than we had seen for a while. All the street names have a king Arthur theme, we are in these folk and 7 dogs are in one campervan... hope it doesn't rain image all that wet dog. |
I will have to research to understand why Arthur and the Round Table is celebrated in France, I thought he was a Pom! Love the sculpture of the little people on pedestals.
ReplyDeleteResearch result (from my old French Lonely Planet, rather than Google): Paimpont Forest is where "young Arthur supposedly received the sword Excalibur from the fairy Vivian, the mysterious Lady of the Lake who later became Merlin's mistress. Visitors still come here in search of the spring of eternal youth, where the magician first met his lover" - I don't remember being told about Merlin hanging out with the Lady of the Lake when we read/were told the story as children! Anyway you guys already seem to have the secret of eternal youth.
