Lion sur mer day two July 25 and Juno Beach July 26

The day dawned overcast  but the pepper we bought with us has had two chilliest turn red .

I had no yoghurt so fresh croissants from next door were breakfast.

P set off on his bike to visit two war museums so I walked up and down the beach and had a paddle.  When I had enough of that I did a hop for fresh bread and fruit then sat at a beach bar with an apricot nectar.

I bought a book this morning. From the book market , the only English one
I could find a large Robert Ludlum so that will keep me busy for a while.

Then this afternoon we got the local bus to Caen and visited the Art gallery and the town museum.

Main street Caen

The art gallery had quite a few paintings that I think were just old rather than masterpieces.

Some good works amongst them but a lot of ordinary ones as well.  A very ugly Madonna a child where the baby looked like some one had slapped it and another one where the mothers breast seemed to
spring from a very odd point on her chest.

The history museum had some interesting local bits and a very complicated demo on  lace making .
Amazing what they did with lots of threads and pins.

William the conqueror and Queen Matilda lived here and they have a huge abby each ( he had to build her one to appease the clergy for marrying his cousin). From here they ruled England and France.

Then Home again on the bus and since we got in it has been raining. Only day of rain for the next 10 so I don’t mind and the sound on the roof is lovely.

July 26th we spent visiting WW2 sites the Merville Battery which was a really interesting story with sadly a lots of lives lost.  They had a sound and light show, lots of bangs and flashes.

To get to the next site the satnav took us down a bike path!!!!!  it was for bikes and farm vehicles only, I kept expecting an angry french man to pop out and wave a finger at us while growling in french.  fortunately we didnt even meet a bike and were soon on our way to the next site.

Now we are in our camp in Graye on Juno beach for the night, it is quite big with 150 sites and lots of children running round.  ( we are due a charge up and showers again)

We went for a walk along the beach when we arrived and watched some aqua jogging, this was hard core jogging the the sea up to their waists.
