Stavanger 13 August Bergen 14th August

Stavanger was a nice town lots of white houses and cobbled streets, so nice that cruise ships tied up next door.

cruise boat a bit obvious
We spent the morning looking around and then most of the afternoon n the Petroleum museum... I know sounds crazy but Norway was a very poor country then they discovered oil. Unlike most countries the government kept control and puts the profits in to an oil fund now worth over one trillion pound. Each year they spend the interest on the people. So free health, free education, good roads, good transport system. Any one that has a license to extract oil from Norway fields pays 90% tax which goes in to the oil fund. Their plan is to have lots of money when the oil runs out.
They heat their own country with hydro and wind and sell the oil to the UK and others.

They had lots of oil rig related items...
model of the biggest rig the white bits are the legs that go way down under the sea the blue bit is where the sea is

Today we got up at 5am to catch at 7am ferry ( we slept in the ferry car park so not far to drive)
Much bigger boat than I expected but as it comes from Denmark it had three levels of cabins as well as bars cafes restaurants shops etc.

We managed to get a seat in the front lounge so had a great view all the way.

P settling in

our ferry

the window ledge was heated mmmmm

eating spaces

just in case you fancy paying a tune

The trip took 5 hours and they stayed inside the archipelago of islands so we got really close to lots of houses and rocks!

a bit bleak

a full rainbow the ends were in the water.

map of where we are

Then we arrived in Bergen and found our camper stop a gravel car park with 30 other vans. It has the tram stop at the gate so very popular. We headed into town ( on the tram ) and it dropped up right in the old town, perfect.  There were lots of young people about in groups it looked like university orientation day.

We headed to the most photographed bit of Norway the wooden houses on the harbour.
good enough for a calendar

In behind them was an area of wooden walkways and old buildings all joined together.

Then we headed up the funicular to the lookout.

We took lots of photos and then walked to the lake on top of the hill.

it rained then sun then rain then sun  not the best for curly hair..
