Oslo 3 4 August

We left the car park at the top of Oslo, up where the TV masts are and the ski fields for winter and headed in to Oslo on the train. Due to it being skifields the train came right up to the carpark and we only had a short walk to catch it.

The views out of the window was amazing as well a lovely homes the mountain dropped away to a golf course and another lake.

At the bottom we caught a tram into town and explored Oslo starting at the Opera house.

you can walk up the opera house and onto the roof

From the roof you could see the outdoor swimming pool, again they are swimming in the harbour

There was a modern feature in the harbour that looked like sails.

We went up to the sculpture park where they had a Damian Hurst, some Rodin and the man on the diving board called Dilemma

And a dog just standing in the water I guess his feet were hot, he never moved at all.
Then back into town and a general wander about. All reports were that Denmark is one of the most expensive countries in the world and out simple lunch cost £24.

We also had a ride in a driverless car/ bus.

Things we saw on our walk are on the link.

That night we had a thunderstorm which when you are on top of a mountain above the clouds was quite an event. at one stage the lightning and thunder arrived at the same time.

Not the best place to be near a radio tower in a metal box in  thunderstorm.

Next day we awoke to thick fog and no sign of Oslo anymore.
P bought an Oslo card in an attempt to visit 4 museums in a day, I decided to for go the pleasure and went exploring. First thing I noticed is that all the shops in the centre city and suburbs are closed on a Sunday  even H & M!

I went to the Vigeland sculpture park where all Mr Vigeland sculptures are, he makes people look real and at all stages of their lives from baby to old person.

people crawling over each other to get to the top
They were amazing.

P reported that he spent 4 hours at one museum the one on the Fram arctic explorer boat and then went to the Thor Heyerdahl museum to look at the boats.

We managed to run out of electricity and gas today so the freezer is defrosting and there is very little lighting  oops.  Too many nights not plugged in,

Today it dawned foggy again so we packed up and headed to the ski jump tower , this photo is from their website we were there in fog.Holmenkollen 2

I used the remainder of P's Oslo pass to go up the ski jump to the top how any one can go down that is beyond me... so I did a tryout  of it in simulator.  First it did a helicopter to the top and then we skied down  which was horrigying, then to add to the fun we did the men's downhill slalom course as well. We got thrown about a lot and there were screams, only 6 of us in the pod.

Then we had to do the more mundane and find a way to fill UK gas cylinders in Norway.
First place just NO. So we went to a motorhome dealer and although they couldn't do it they rung around until they found someone who could and gave us the address. Very kind of them.

We headed there and had to buy a Norwegian Propane bottle which they fitted for us and should keep us in Gas for the rest of the trip.

We then found a camp site with a laundry and have now settled in with all our clothes washed and dried, showers and a fabulous site on the waterfront of the Oslo Fjord.
