Bergen day 2 and 3 15 16 August

Our motor camp/ gravel pit filled up over night and there must be 50 of us.

Today was a P research and photo match day. He is helping his publisher with an article on the boat explosion in Bergen in 1944.

We got the tram to town and after P got himself organised ( we had no power for his laptop last night so he couldn't transfer the photos to my ipad.)  But we used the internet and power at the tourist office and then headed off. We spent the day matching photos from then to now.  Fortunately it was sunny and quite a pleasant day. I managed to be useful and identified some matches.

We passed a rather nice yacht the Steel so I looked it up and it is certified as an ice breaker and is for sale for E37 million. Check its website by searching for Steel Yacht George town and you can see the interiors in case you want to buy it.

The harbourside as quite busy as 2 cruise boats were in today.

still found time for lunch

huge pipe laying boat managed to dock right where P wanted to take a photo.

Finally we had done enough and at about 7.30 we headed back to the carpark for another night,
Today we headed to a grave yard to try and find the graves of the 200 or so folk the were killed in the explosion.

Then headed to a fort on  hill where the main german camp was ( nice view from the top)

There were a surprising number of people walking up the hill to the fort and walking in the hills around it, it was cold and raining off and on but that doesn't stop Norwegians from having a bracing stroll.

Then off to our camp, it is on the side of a fjord and very wild with tent tucked into gullies and a really nice services block and lounge. Good thing we arrived when we did as there have been MH turned away, You just rock up and find a spot you like then pay the man in the house down the hill.

the view from the camp

I didnt fish but the man opposite us did and caught 4 mackerel which he is BBQing now.

nice old boat shed

nice warm lounge for us to use, I think those in tents will like it

photo went on just a bit long....
